Braves or Bust...

Kenneth and some of his good friends from law school decided a few weeks ago to get tickets to the Braves vs. Mets game on Friday, April 4th. I then decided I wanted to go, so the plan was for the boys to pick me up at school, and we would head straight to Turner Field. So, Friday comes and there is bad stormy weather headed for Birmingham, so Jefferson County let school out at 1:30. I got really excited because now we were going to be able to leave an hour and half earlier and get to Atlanta in time to eat at the Varsity. The boys pulled up at carpool, which highly amused all the teachers who were left waiting on students to get picked up, and we rearranged the seating arrangements: three in the back (Andrew, Andy, and Justin) and three in the front (Kenneth, myself and Baby Hamburg). We got to Atlanta in plenty of time to eat at the Varisty...yum...bacon cheeseburger, fries, onion rings, orange freeze...yum. After we ate, we headed over to Turner Field early to do a little sightseeing. Kenneth had never actually been to a game at Turner Field. The last Braves game he went to in Atlanta was at Fulton County Stadium when he was 8. Kenneth was so excited about Turner Field that he wanted a solo picture in front of the stadium:
We found our seats and got all situated when it began to rain. We all put on our ponchos, but then decided to walk around the concourse until it let up. Well, it began lightning, and right at game time, the game was cancelled! We didn't want to turn around and drive back at to Birmingham, so we began weighing our options. We thought about going to the Hawks game, but it had already started and we wouldn't have gotten there until half time. Then we thought about going to the World of Coke, but it closed at 5:00 and it was 7:45. So, we decided to go to Atlantic Station and walk around. We ended up going to the Fox Sports Bar at Atlantic Station and eating a second meal. So all in all, we drove TWO HOURS to ATLANTA to EAT DINNER TWICE! So, Braves or Bust...it was a BUST!

This was before the rain and lightning came. Don't we look like we're ready to have a good time? Oh well, maybe we'll be able to exchange the tickets and make it to a different game!
